So that's why I never received a reply to a request for a small part for my boats (2011 models).

 Hersh

Unless the law has changed, a company is required to carry parts for five years after a product is  discontinued. I too am curious as to what part you are not able to get as this is concerning.

Mokai will try to void a warranty for using my products, even though the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act of 1975 says they are not allowed to. I think being such a small company, and not in any kind of spotlight in the media, gives them some sense of of freedom to do as they please or think the rules don't apply to them?  ???

Unless I misunderstood, Hersh was talking about availability of parts and not a warranty issue, which are different things. On the topic of warranty issues, I think it's an issue more of liability for Mokai. As a larger company, they are subject to greater scrutiny before they can release a product to the public. If they were to endorse your product, they could leave themselves wide open to lawsuits.

I think we have probably taken this a bit too far in America, but people start suing other people at the drop of a hat these days. Have you purchased a gas container lately? OMG, you practically need an engineering degree to figure out how to pour the gas. I end up spilling more gas trying to, push and turn, and making sure my O-ring is on the correct side of the pour spout, etc. I'm sure the safety features were a result of a lawsuit somewhere down the line, although EPA regulations are part of it too. I bet we could get into a whole political discussion about government regulations, but let's not:)

Personally, I like things just the way they are:) If Mokai was to sell and distribute the improvements you sell, they would be considerably more expensive, as they would have to do a lot more research and development before they could release them, and consequently it would also take longer to reach the market, etc.

If I was in Mokai's shoes, I would be trying to put you on the payroll, but that's me.

Troy

I was adding to your comment with regards to following the "rules". About not having parts when they are supposedly required to, and I chimed in that they will try to void a warranty for using aftermarket parts (mine), which is also against the "rules".  They don't have to endorse my products, nor do I want them to, and I am fine with it to stay that way. I would just be happy not to hear from customers how they have been trying to discredit me and all the members here, of which I will not go into the details being those comments were given in confidence. My goal here is to make these boats more fun, make them not just work but work correctly, turn them from cool toys into useful tools that are reliable and require little maintenance. I've accomplished that, and hope Mokai can do the same with this new model.

Thanks Tom. It was a request to purchase the o-ring style tie downs for paddle/ rod holders. Wanted to get some spares since I can't find a rod holder. Did buy some paddle/rod leashes off of e-bay that will work for me.

I think that Mokai may be off the legal hook on this one ;D At a fabric supply shop you could probably pick up some 1/16th diameter bungee cord that would work. At your local supermarket you could pick up some woman's hair ties that would work as well.

A friend of mine just bought a used 2012 mokai and ask me where I got my paddle holder that keeps my paddle firmly secured on top of the boat yet readily available to pull up and use when needed. I sent him the link and figured I'd share it with everyone else if they are interested. Also I found the round 8" black hatch that mokai installs as an extra. So I will post that link as well.

I think these handles would come in handy for anyone getting the new 3 piece ES-Kape since the ass end doesn't have any.

Where does one get the black plastic washers that mokai uses all over the boat with those #10 screws?

They aren't plastic, they are black anodized aluminum. Mokai makes those as far as I know.

Here is a place you can get them, that have a natural finish.

Anybody know where I can get the 1/4-28 brass nuts with 45* countersink?  They are used to hold the motor mount plate to the hull.

Could you take a pic of what you're referring to? I've got a 2003 and a 2011 and both have regular stainless nuts for the motor mount plate.

Nice going Dragon.... I have a site that I used to outfit my fishing kayak. Also to outfit my Mokai soon. From Ram/Scotty Mounts and stainless hardware to cable clamps and rod holders. I think it's one of the best sites affording a good variety of stock items that we all could use. It's called HOOK 1 Kayak Fishing Gear. You could google the site and you'll be led there. Check it out... You'll always find something that you'd like for your Mokai. Very reasonable prices. Especially for the small stuff that you need or want to replace. I have a container with compartments that have stainless screws, rivets, washers, nuts and bolts of all sizes. Always good to have an assortment for emergencies.

My 2010 Mokai uses the brass nuts that I described above.  The c'sink goes around an o-ring that seals the bolt/hull connection.  I guess I'll just make some from a standard nut.

Do the Mokais that use a non-countersunk stainless nut also have an o-ring under the nuts?
