Well.....  >:( ..... Apparently all the 2008-2012's are susceptible to cracks.... During some testing last week I couldn't help but notice I was getting a few hundred rpm more than I should have, and less speed than expected.. Wouldn't come on plane either. Pump was clear, grate was clear, wear ring had tight gap.. Also noticed lots of water in the engine compartment at the end of the trip. Looked and looked for any signs of anything to explain this. Even made up a new hull bearing to replace the original prototype I was still using. Found nothing wrong and no difference seen. So I dug out my USB camera and went exploring inside the hull around the jet intake tunnel. The left lower mounting bolt molding hump was badly cracked, and it extended up and then down the intake tunnel. So my brace plate isn't going to prevent cracks in that area...

After a very tedious hour of "welding" the cracks with a soldering iron, by camera, I gave the entire area a thick layer of polyurethane for insurance. I could reach the inside of the tunnel much easier. Now I'm trying to think of a suitable method to fill the void under the intake tunnel inside the hull where I had to repair it. Considering making a dam up around that area and injecting expanding foam for extra support and additional insurance from leaks.

Sorry to see that happen! That looks like about a 3" crack? Is there alot of pressure on that part of the hull from water going thru the pump? Great job on the repair!

The pump area and deck behind it are floating with no underlying support. So any pressure up under the motor would cause the tunnel to lift the pump mounting area. My plate would prevent leaks from outside cracks around the wear ring housing, but not help supporting that tunnel. Tested today, not a drop came in and my speeds are back to normal. I will be supporting that area somehow and will post the efforts here.

I'm just disappointed that I need to. Was really hoping that cracks in that area of the hull were from strapping methods over the pump and pressure against it. Didn't want to imagine everyone with this hull type will have this to look forward to.  :(

Quick sketch of what I see the problem to be. I added two pieces of 1/4" HDPE under the pump mounting area to allow movement from strikes to the grate area to be transferred evenly. Then filled the rest of the void with expanding foam for insurance. Got a little carried away with the foam, will trim it up and make it look nicer after it cures. Hoping this will be the permanent solution, time will tell.

Thanks, I hope it's a permanent fix. I feel pretty good about it, but that doesn't mean as much as I'd like to think.  :D

At least you know if you need repairs that I'm within driving range. Would be fun to give you another river tour. \./8

Ok, so I took things another step further and melted some stainless mesh into the tunnel where the crack was. Should reinforce the repair that much more.
