Looking for a used Mokai
« on: September 18, 2019, 12:03:16 AM »
Hey, new to the forum here,  been thinking about getting a Mokai (or two) for up here in Alaska.  First of all thanks to Tom for putting together the mods and forum, super helpful.  I donít think Iíve ever owned an engine without a clutch, certainly not a vehicle, maybe a pressure washer but trigger handle makes it functional.

Regarding used boats, any suggestions on what to look for besides spline wear, hull wear, hull cracks, or engine trouble?

Second, do you still think itís worth getting an older Honda model? Seems like they were slightly lighter and did not have the hull cracking issues.  They seem more available up here in AK, just missed out on a set of two Subaru models with Tomís upgrades, darn.

The old Honda models through 2007 were solid boats, didn't have the cracking issue around the pump. Can be converted to Subaru with Electric Start and transformed into really nice boats. Just make sure the boat is complete with no obvious problems. I can fix just about anything on these so condition would be just a price negotiating factor. Obviously hull condition needs to be verified, do check for cracks from abuse etc.., but those models didn't have anything major to worry about. Look around the cockpit support braces and inspect the bottom.

Welcome to the fun!  \./8
