No, nothing will adhere to the plastic wear ring. It would come right off after the first use.

What is the best way to take out the aluminum ring. I see there are 2 slots . Do pry it out using a screwdriver?

Absolutely never pry, my rings come out by hand as shown in any of my videos about them. Do you have one of my aluminum rings or the stock plastic one?

Hey Tom, this is  Barry Sluder. You did a bunch of modification s on my Mokia about 2 years ago including replacing the wear ring. Iíve been extremely pleased with your improvements! They have definitely have made my boat more dependable and easier to use. My boat has been running great but itís time to do a little maintenance.

I needed to resurface the ring even though I have not noticed a loss in power. So I tried to take the wear ring out by hand but it would not budge. I had to use the small screwdriver to break it free enough to work it out by hand. When I got it out I noticed the groove in the pump housing where the wear ring sits. The tip of the screwdriver is pointing at the grove in the picture. Like I said I have not noticed a loss of power but your guidance would be appreciated.

As while Iím asking, how often do you change the fuel and air filter. From what I have read you recommend a 5w20 synthetic oil 18oz or 300ml to the ring below the first threads of the oil fill. Please let me know your recommendations.

That groove was caused from running the stock plastic wear ring until it wore through and continued to wear into the housing. Nothing you need to worry about, it happened before the aluminum ring was installed. To prevent the aluminum ring from getting stuck like you experienced it's a good idea to remove it occasionally and clean any grit out. A twisting motion helps to remove it, rotating it in the housing, they usually come right out like that.  \./8
