Ramp is on black rock road almost a mile north of the dam in Phoenixville. There is a kayak launch in canal park just below the dam.

That's ok Tom, small hitch pins should work just fine. If not, I'll let you know.

That's the one.
The canal is nice for kayaking too. Not a long trip though.
The river below the dam is pretty shallow in spots, even for a mokai.

I can certainly understand the excitement of a new owner wanting to get on the water ASAP. BUT; consider the advice you read. You need to be extremely careful in the cold. Even during warm weather, I almost always plan my trip where I launch and primarily go up river. That way I can at least float and paddle back to the ramp. These boats are just as complicated as any full size boat. Lots of simple things can cause you to get stranded. This time of year there is virtually no one out there to save you. I'm assuming you're also new to the river. You need to learn your water. Know the areas that can be dangerous and how water levels change them. No matter how well you know your water, obstacles will always find you.

Be Safe !

Good advice, Duff. Always going up river in an unknown boat is a must, as well as a plan should something go wrong. I take it for granted people know this, thanks for the reminder that this isn't the case. These boats are fun, but not worth dying for.

I bought some small hitch pins that fit good. Hopefully I'll go out next weekend.
Today was 40mph winds & about 20 degrees, so I gave it a rest.

Took the boat out before the snow storm hit. ( 6-10" ) nice and sunny most of the time.
Went from Flat Rock Park in Gladwyne, to the dam in Norristown, about 9-10 miles each way. I could never get close due to all the Rapids, until now!
Notice the life ring near my boat!

It's great in the winter. High water levels make it so much easier to get around. The Schuylkill River gets very low in the summer, and would be hard to travel, even in a Mokai.

It's also nice being alone on the river, except for the rowing teams. I'm just extra careful in the cold water. That's why I left the life ring alone.

One thing though. I'm not required to take a boater safety course, due to the low HP of the Mokai, but I think I should.
I was yelled at by a rowing coach for weaving through some boats on the river. I turned around to confront him. He calmed down fast, and explained his concern for the girls in the boat.
He was absolutely right! I'm still thinking I'm in my kayak, not a motorboat.
I apologized to him & the girls, and moved on.
Lesson learned.

Did a 10 mile trip Sunday. River was about 4' above normal, but not to swift to keep me away. First time out without my fingers going numb. Ramp was very crowded, as you can see.......

Parked on an island that's normally about 4' of dry land, but cruised right over it today.

Looks like a good time. Watch out for those muddy boat launches, I slipped once, very painful. 😂
Is the one picture an optical illusion or is the front of the boat under water?
