New owner!
« on: January 13, 2019, 08:51:47 AM »
I drove 10 hours Saturday to pick up a 2012 Mokai in NY. Owner was super helpful!
It's snowing now, so I guess I'll wait to hit the water.
It has many of Tom's upgrades.
Question: what kind of oil do I use? I'm in SE Pa.

Glad you found one. Oil should be 10w-30 full synthetic. Let me know if you have any other questions.   \./8

Boat looks & runs great, but the factory seat back is too low. I'm 6'5", and it would not be comfortable at all.
Any thoughts for a replacement, or an add on?

I was able to register the Mokai today, and was able to try it out on a local river.
AMAZING! Went about two miles up stream at all different power with no issues.
I was not dressed properly ( 35deg ), so wasn't out long.

The steering is definitely not right, a lot of play. I could use some advice how to fix that. I imagine it's pretty easy.

I have a folding seat on my canoe like the one you guys showed me, so I'll definitely be putting that in.

Very happy!😆😆😆😆😆

Good to hear, congrats!

Moving the steering stick, where do you see the play at? What is loose? Or maybe you can try to explain what you are meaning by a lot of play?

Seat upgrade is definitely a good upgrade, look forward to seeing what you do there.

Congratulations on your first Mokai cruise!  Out of curiosity, what was the local river you mentioned? Brandywine, perchance? I am located not far away - Wilmington - and always look for new Mokai'able locations.

Black Rock Ramp on the Schuylkill River, near Phoenixville.
I'm headed out there now before the snow starts.

Wow, you are brave - 34F and ~1 inch of snow today at that location. Hope you'll enjoy your ride nonetheless. How far is the river navigable upstream (previous dam?) from Black Rock?

Just got back from the river. Yes, a little chilly, but couldn't wait.
Conservation Officer checked me out, all legal. He was a good guy.
The hunters were out on the water, and less than thrilled I was out, but no problem.

I'm not sure how far you can go on that section, but it's at least 10-20 miles. ( I'll check )

I couldn't find the pins for the windshield. It would sure have been nice with it on, coming back against the wind!

I just checked on Google Earth, and I don't see any dams upstream from Black Rock. Low water would be the only issue.

Let me know if you can't find the windshield pins, I can make some up for you. Glad you're having fun!
