For those who have a fishfinder, opinions on this model would be appreciated.

Sometimes. You said that your Hummingbird is mainly used for depth, gps, speed and terrain?
After reading the reviews, sounds like it can locate fish and I could use it for some shore fishing as well. Wondering how well it would work compared to yours and others for locating schools of catfish. As I head up the Mahoning, I might drop it in every 1/2 to 1 mile and check for fish or underwater brush. Might be a cheap alternative until I save for a better one?

It's a fishfinder as much as anything else, but I don't really use it for that. Primarily for GPS and depth. I do watch for fish ID's and haven't really noticed any patterns between what's seen and what's caught. Probably seeing plenty of species I'm not fishing for too.

Can you see the fish idís when you arrive at one of your catfish spots? If not, do you move on to the next spot?

Not reliably, honestly most of the places I catch showed nothing on the screen other than debris and floor structure.

Your catching a freezer full of fish but the fish finder doesnít show the fish, disappointing to hear. Guess Iíll save my money and rely on Danny Kingís! Lol

I always figured since catfish hang out on the bottom, in and under structures etc.. that the fish finder is seeing the species I'm not interested in. It certainly sees plenty, just rarely what I'm catching. You can't go wrong with Danny King's!!
