07 pump housing
« on: June 03, 2018, 11:51:10 AM »
I just scored an 07 in decent shape, got it for a great price. A few minor issues Iíve found so far. The pump housing looks like it had a seal at one time that went all around it? Anything to bother trying to seal back up or leave it be? My other boat is an 09 so Iím new to this type of housing. See the attached pic. Tom, Iíll be sending you this pump in a few months, if it lasts that long. The hex shaft seems in good shape but Iíll be needing a clutch in this boat as well.

Nice. That's the old hull version, be glad you got it. The bottom half of intake tunnel is cast aluminum and incorporates that pump mount/wear ring housing. It's the most solid reliable hull they made. You won't have to worry about cracks and there is nothing you need to do to it now. Leave it alone and know it won't cause you any problems. lol

When you're ready for the clutch that's when you should send the pump, can knock it all out at the same time, good time to order an aluminum wear ring too so I can fit it to your impeller while I have it.  \./8

Tom, this hull had 2 cracks on the top of the deck where the aluminum angled support posts connect. One crack on the starboard side was fairly large, not sure if this was caused by the previous owner climbing in the boat or what, I have welded it all back together and braced the area with steel between the aluminum post and the plastic hull, as I finished up I noticed a small stress crack on the side of the hull where the screw goes through the hull into the aluminum angle post, I welded that too and added a piece of steel to spread out the pressure a bit, have you seen that before? It almost seems like the aluminum support is about a 1/2Ē too long, creating a lot of pressure on the hull. The boats were stored outside under a deck so Iím sure some of this is uv related.

They all have issues with cracking at the cockpit braces, minor by comparison to the pump mount / intake tunnel cracks the 2008-2012 get too. Weld well and use over sized backup washers inside and you should be good. Sounds like that's what you did so good job.

I used an old circular saw blade for my support metal, I removed some material from the aluminum support post so the overall length was the same after adding the saw blade.

Thank you for the pictures...nice job on both.
Think I'm going to try using some wire mesh since its working well for my other cracks. A little extra reinforcement can't hurt. Then I'll use a washer on the underside to add to the strengthened hull brace. Sort of like I did for the area behind the cockpit.

Another helpful video there Chuck.
Very helpfull seeing all the weak areas in the boat and how it was welded. Thanks for taking the effort and sharing it to us.

No problem, I enjoy make by them and learning the editing software too.
Plus it just proves the old saying, if I can do it, anyone can.
