ES Conversion / EX17 Head Upgrades
« on: December 28, 2016, 10:48:57 PM »
Couple boats in shop for makeovers right now. Almost ready for some water testing. One got a new ES motor upgrade (the other was ES from the factory) and both got EX17 heads swapped on. Just a quick video to show the sound and throttle response. I'll share the water test videos here once I get there.  \./8

Nice work.  I like the fuel line rerouting with the filter as close as possible to the carb.  \./8

Thanks, Bill. Have been doing that for years and it's been working very well. Prevents any fuel line degradation as a factor in clogging up the carb. Just takes some minor modification of the fuel inlet valve, breather box, and flywheel cover. I do it to every Subaru I work on.  \./8

The yellow 2012 motor was pretty well worn, and the EX17 head added more strain on the bottom end causing some unnerving noises to be more evident.  :( Decided to swap in a fresh block instead of chancing it.  \./8

Starting the new engine in the 2011, then the old one in the 2012. Can hear the difference, the mic didn't pick up half the noise but you get the idea.

New block, sounds much better!   :)

Both running.

Was able to get testing done on the yellow 2012. Mid 70's and partly sunny made for a great time.

This clip was at the end of the run, had to stop by one of my favorite sloughs on the way back down.  :)
