Thanks Hillbilly. And Tom... I can't remember how to actually order the grate as it's not in your store. I do want one and am ready to order. What info do you need and how? Thanks...

Always glad to help. I'll shoot you an invoice through Paypal, I never sold the grate through the store so no need to go looking for it there.  ;)

According to Paypal you paid the invoice, don't see how you messed anything up, looks good to me.  \./8

I'll get it made up and headed your way as soon as I get back from my Thanksgiving vacation, you should have it by the end of next week if not sooner.

I've decided to do a little experiment with my grate on the ES-Kape by circumcising a few of the bars to see if I gain any speed >:D    I currently run at 10 to 11 mph and that's with the EX-17 head conversion.     Prior to the conversion I was getting 8 mph at best :'(
With my weight class (200 lbs) I can get on plane at just a little over 9 mph, so if I can pick up somewhere between 1 & 2 mph and get up to 12 or 13 mph ;), currents and other surface disturbances won't knock me off plane \./8

Like I said, I run in lakes that have minimal debri so the risk factors are small ::)

I'm waiting for my good friend Fishlover to call me and say he's ready for his maiden voyage, so at that time I can try out the grate modification.

Will keep you posted, would like to hear any opinions on the modification.

Hey... it is having you ship it to a friends address in Tenn. Can you ship it to my home address in Maryland? If you don't have it, I'll send it to you in private, but don't know how. No rush...thanks.

In clean water that will help quite a bit, would not recommend anything less than 5' deep like that. Anything that would just pass through that could certainly have potential for impeller damage.

Tom says "clear" water might be okay to alter number of bars on intake.  My observation in water that has relatively no issues with rock type encounter but vegetation in deep to shallow.  Currently, alot of this typical vegetation gets chewed up and passes all way thru (works like a blender).  On the other hand, sometimes just gets jammed up (see pic) and then need to use stomp grate, reverse bucket and/or pull out a grate rake to clear.  Would impeller damage occur with less grate bars in this degree of vegetation "clear" water.  Any insight appreciated. Thx, John

That stuff wouldn't hurt the impeller, it's rocks and big chunks of wood that would cause problems. With that much stuff stuck in the grate I'd hardly call that "clear" water. LOL Bet you had fun getting it there though! haha  :D

Here is the finished product.

304 Stainless rod. 1/4" perimeter, 5/16" slot bars, then powder coated. Strongest grate ever made.  :)

John, Just short note to follow up on your planed modification to the grate you posted last year.  Did you ever go forward with that and any significant improvement in mph? Tight lines, John

The fixed grate I made is the same design as the stomp grates I've done in the past. It was really just intended as a stronger replacement, any increase in flow would be minimal with regards to speed.

Tom, Sorry about the confusion but inquiry was really just  directed to John (Rotweilerman) as his earlier post spoke of cutting bars off his existing grate. Just wanting to know if any improvement. John

Hey John,   if I'm correct,  this question was for me ???, unfortunately I haven't had an opportunity to try the modified grate yet.   Castaic Lake is my choice for fishing, and this lake is prone to winds.  In the event white caps appear, they close the launch ramps >:(    Although I plan to go next week providing the wind gods will cooperate  \./8
I will advise on any speed increase as a result of the grate mod.
John
