ES-Kape / Subaru Pulse Fittings Loose - CHECK YOURS!
« on: November 06, 2015, 07:48:02 PM »
I've heard of, and have personally seen, these pulse fittings loose and/or stripped out with red rtv to seal it. This creates a vacuum leak and causes the motor to run lean, which will be hotter. Everyone needs to unscrew this port and clean it, then use JB weld when screwing it back in making sure there is nothing obstructing the hole. Then use a worm drive screw clamp to put the hose back on, do not use the spring clamp. Everyone needs to do this if they have an ES-Kape!!

Checked mine and it also was loose.
Contacted Mokai today and they agreed to send me a new insulator plate with gaskets, that has this pulse fitting properly installed on the insulator.
We'll see what this looks like.

Will be interesting to see what they consider properly installed.  :D Cleaning the RTV off the original fitting and threaded hole, and screwing back together with JB Marine weld is a permanent fix that will last the life of the motor. ;)

Rudy, Mokai sent me a replacement also, Tom's fix was cleaner.
I can't believe this is still an issue,  I wonder how many of the 600 plus members have the problem and don't know it, but the motor is running hot and slow.

Yeah.. but, keep in mind also that I got this boat late spring 2015. Been sitting in my garage, just no time to get to it until now.
I will check the replacement out carefully before diving in to remove the carb. I was told that a "chemical" was used to secure the fitting to the insulator. I'm not sure what he meant by it. JB weld always an easy option.
We shall see...
Another issue right now is that as I assembled the boat, I discovered the bow section did not match the body in color. So they are helping me to correct this with a replacement.
But I understand why this happens. If you don't mold all boat parts in one mold at the same time, you just cannot control the batch color to the degree you would need in order to avoid this. This makes those molds much larger and more expensive. On the flip side, you now have to cherry-pick the sections to match and never get it exactly right, with possible left-overs. Actually, I think the darker colors don't show this as much?
Too bad there isn't an easy method to "bleach"  HDPE, which is what I would need to lighten my darker yellow bow.
Oh well, all in a days work.

Rudy, That's about the same time I got my 2nd boat.   Don't mean to be sarcastic,  but I hope Mokai doesn't classify "red rtv" as a chemical secure.   Tom offered a better nipple as well.

Will take a look... and perhaps pre-emptively remove and marine JB Weld the fitting back in and replace the compression clamp with a home clamp.  Thanks Tom!
